The Department of French and Francophone Studies invites applications for an advanced assistant professor or associate professor position in French to begin September 1, 2026. Candidates should have a specialization in the literatures and cultures of sub-Saharan Africa. The ideal candidate will also specialize in one or more of the following areas: film and media studies, gender and sexuality studies, Caribbean studies, or African diaspora studies.
The successful candidate will teach five classes per year spread across three ten-week terms. Responsibilities include teaching French and Francophone language, literature, and culture courses at all levels, from beginning and intermediate through advanced level seminars in the candidate’s area of expertise. There may also be opportunities to teach in an off-campus study program and collaborate with Africana Studies and other disciplines. We seek candidates with an engaged, dynamic, and communicative teaching style, as well as a demonstrated commitment to scholarly research and publishing.
